Vision Disorder Diagnosis and Treatment

Do you or a loved one have difficulty seeing to a point where it interferes with your daily life? Midtown Optometry specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of vision disorders that interfere with reading, learning, and other activities of daily living. Because we have your health and convenience at the heart of our passion, Dr. Leanne Lee has completed the COVD Fellowship certification process. Research has shown that vision therapy can be instrumental in helping increase visual attention spans for children learning to read. Often, children who had been falling behind in reading are able to improve their performance greatly by reducing the effects of their vision problems. Vision therapy truly allows kids to enjoy learning and become more confident, happier people.

Schedule an appointment at our San Joaquin County vision office today. We’ll be able to diagnose and treat your issue and let you get back to living your life.

What is Vision Therapy?

Vision therapy is a drug-free, safe, and effective method for both children and adults to improve vision. It contains a progressive program of vision exercises and procedures. We perform all vision therapy in our office under strict doctor supervision and adapt your treatment based on individual patient needs. Our therapy sessions usually take place once or twice a week, depending on the severity of your vision. They take about 30 minutes to an hour and can sometimes come with home exercises that you will practice on your own. The vision therapy program usually takes a few months, depending on the patient’s needs.

The different types of vision problems that respond well to optometric vision therapy include eye coordination, eye movement/tracking, focusing, and visual information processing. There is no age limit – vision therapy works well for adults as well as children. Depending on the type of vision problem, sometimes glasses can help. If glasses don’t solve the vision problem, then vision therapy can often make all the difference. It is an invaluable tool that has changed not only our patients’ vision but has improved many related areas of their lives as well.

The first step is a thorough evaluation with Dr. Leanne Lee to determine all your treatment options. Having had extensive experience treating patients of all ages, she easily makes her younger patients comfortable during this evaluation.

Benefits of Vision Therapy

The end goal of vision therapy is to help our patients develop and improve their fundamental visual skills as well as their seeing abilities. This can then improve their visual comfort and make seeing, reading, and comprehending easier and more efficient. We hope to change how our patients process and interpret visual information for the better, allowing for an overall more successful life. The purpose is not to strengthen eye muscles as they are already developed and strong. Vision therapy focuses on retraining the inherently and incorrect learned aspects of vision and understanding visual concepts.
