Does your child have poor performance at school?

Because of poor schoolwork or trouble learning to read or spell, parents may think their child is lazy or has a low IQ.  Maybe not.  Perhaps the child needs glasses or has a "lazy eye,” something that can only be detected by a thorough eye examination.

Children should have vision test each year.  A child doesn't know that having problems seeing across the room, seeing double, or not being able to focus on things up close, is abnormal.  Only an aware adult can see signs in a child that might warrant an eye examination.

The following are some signs that may indicate your child is having vision problems:

            • Covering or shutting one eye to focus

            • Rubbing eyes repeatedly

            • Holding books too close

            • Developing red or crusty eyes

            • Holding head at an angle when looking at an object

            • Using a finger as a place mark when reading

            • Complaining of headaches after reading

            • Sitting too close to the television

At Midtown Optometry, our complete vision and eye health examination will make sure your child operates at his or her peak visual performance.  That means thorough testing for visual interpretation, testing how the eyes work together, checking muscle balance and eye movement, color vision, depth perception and visual field.
